Fuel tax pause: The Alberta government introduced a pause on fuel taxes first in April 2022 to combat high inflation. Since its introduction, the program provided some of the lowest gas prices in the country saving Albertans an estimated $1.5 billion. Consistent with the UCP campaign promise, the government voted to extend the fuel tax pause till the end of the year.
Meeting with federal ministers: The Premier, the Minister of Energy and Minerals, and the Minister of Environment and Protected Areas met with the federal Minister of Natural Resources, and the Minister of Intergovernmental Affairs, Infrastructure and Communities. In the meeting, the Alberta delegation highlighted the importance of increasing Canada’s export of LNG to international markets and taking a collaborative approach to reach a carbon-neutral economy by 2050.
