Promoting film and television in Los Angeles:Minister Fir travelled to Los Angeles to promote Alberta’s film and television industry. The trip included meetings with executives from HBO and other production organizations, and an event showcasing Alberta as a leading filming destination. The film and television industry in Alberta is at an all-time high, and the government is seeking ways to build on this momentum.
$3.6 million to support post-secondary innovation: The government is investing $3.6 million to promote technology and draw investment to Alberta. The funding will assist post-secondary institutions with projects ranging from unmanned flight and environmental restoration to developments in energy storage and agricultural technologies. The funding is part of the Alberta Technology and Innovation Strategy.
Supporting housing providers: Alberta’s government is offering housing providers a one-time $10-million increase in operating funding to offset high inflation. The funding will help keep rents more affordable. Budget 2023 allocated $165.9 million over three years for affordable housing to support more than 108,500 Albertans who live in government-subsidized housing units. The government is also inviting qualified organizations to share ideas for building affordable housing near Confederation Park in Calgary.
