$13.6 million for emerging digital technology: Alberta’s government announced it would invest $13.6 million to support emerging technology companies. The program will support 19 partners ranging from university researchers to Alberta IoT allowing them to access resources to advance their prototypes for the marketplace. The funding is part of the Alberta Innovates’ Ecosystem Development Partnerships Program which fosters collaboration between technology providers and entrepreneurs.
 
Supporting Alberta’s aviation workforce: To address the need for skilled workers in the aviation industry, Alberta is providing $5 million to offset training costs for new pilots. The funding is being provided to 14 employers including Airspray, Adventure Aviation, and WestJet Airlines. The grant is part of the Alberta at Work strategy aimed at developing new skills to support Alberta’s economy. 
 
Promoting Alberta geothermal technology: Minister Schulz travelled to Germany to promote Alberta-based geothermal technology. Eavor Technologies received $2 million in funding to develop its geothermal technology and is now beginning to drill the world’s first closed-loop system that will heat up to 200,000 homes annually.
