This Week

Increasing access to lab testing: Earlier this month, Alberta Precision Laboratories began offering lab services to Calgarians to address delays and wait times. In addition to offering services in hospitals and services to Calgarians, Alberta Precision Laboratories and DynaLIFE have agreed to work together to offer services in all regions of the province. The move is consistent with the Premier’s mandate letter to Minister LaGrange which included direction to resolve unacceptable lab service delays.

Parliamentary secretaries sworn in: Eight parliamentary secretaries, first announced on July 13, were sworn in this week. The Premier also announced two government liaisons. MLA Justin Wright will serve as the government’s Military Liaison, and Minister Nate Glubish will serve as the government’s Francophone Community Liaison.

$3.5 million for wetlands and watersheds: Alberta’s government announced $3.5 million to fund 22 projects in rural and urban communities to improve flood and drought resiliency. The funding will help restore riverbanks and wetlands, protect streambanks, and improve natural drainage. The funding is part of the Watershed Resiliency and Restoration Program.

$335 million to improve highways: The government increased its paving and overlay budget by $80 million to total $335.1 million for 2023/24. These types of projects extend a road’s lifespan reducing the need for full reconstruction in the future.
