All party Leaders continued to focus their campaign efforts in seat-rich Winnipeg with the PCs, Liberals, and NDP making significant announcements in the city.
Wednesday Announcements
- NDP Leader Wab Kinew announced that the party would commit to opening 5 neighbourhood health clinics throughout the province. An NDP government would provide incentives emergency room doctors, nurses, and technologists to work in these clinics. A similar idea was implemented under the previous NDP government, but the centres were closed due to the PC government’s cuts.
- Manitoba PC candidate for Riel, Rochelle Squires, along with Burrows candidate, Navraz Brar, announced that the party would scrap the land transfer tax for first-time homebuyers. This would cost the province $35 to $40 million per year. On average, homebuyers in Winnipeg paid $5,700 in transfer tax.
- During a press conference in Winnipeg, Manitoba Liberal Leader Dougald Lamont discussed tax reform promises. This is a part of the party’s fully costed plan that includes roughly $1 billion in new spending. Making changes to the provincial personal income tax rate and repealing property tax rebates for the top 80% will work to support the increase in government funding.
