Wellington Advocacy is excited to announce our 2024 Summer Internship Program intake. 

Wellington Advocacy is a national full-service public affairs team with decades of professional experience serving as senior advisors in Canada’s highest political offices. We deliver a full range of government relations services, strategic communications, and digital mobilization to corporations, trade associations, and non-profit organizations.

We are seeking dynamic and motivated interns to join our Government Relations, Strategic Communications, and Digital Mobilization teams. This is a unique opportunity to work with our clients, who represent a cross-section of Canada’s largest and most relevant companies, each operating in a strategic sector of the global economy.

You’ll work alongside Canada’s top political talent, learning from their experience and building your own valuable network to help advance your career. 

Hands-on Involvement: Working alongside your team to support our clients, you’ll gain hands-on experience meeting with government officials and senior executives from some of Canada’s most recognizable brands. 

Paid Experience: Our interns work with us full-time in a paid position from May to August. Many graduates of our summer internship program choose to remain with us part-time after returning to school. Graduates of our internship program have also gone on to work in political offices to utilize the experience they gained while with us. 

Gain Valuable Industry Experience

Government Relations

Political and Media Monitoring: Proactively track political, government, and media developments relevant to Wellington Advocacy and our clients.

Client Support: Help create and project manage client servicing products, including government relations plans, client presentations, policy briefs, memos, proposals, and client briefs.

Market Trend Analysis: Monitor various industry sectors to identify emerging opportunities and strategies that can benefit Wellington Advocacy and our clients.

Administrative Support: Perform essential administrative duties in support of your team, including scheduling and digital file management.

Strategic Communications

Client Support: Help create and project manage client servicing products, including strategic communications plans, client presentations, policy briefs, memos, proposals, and client briefs.

Media Monitoring: Proactively track political, government, and media developments relevant to Wellington Advocacy and our clients.

Administrative Support: Perform essential administrative duties in support of your team, including scheduling and digital file management.

Digital Mobilization 

Digital Advocacy Content Production: Assist in creating engaging digital content, including social media updates, graphics, videos, and other multimedia materials.

Project Management: Assist in a variety of projects managed by the Digital Mobilization team, encompassing areas such as brand development, web design, marketing initiatives, and digital advocacy campaigns.

Graphic Design: Design visually engaging content for Wellington Advocacy and our clients, such as infographics, presentations, booklets, logos and other branding materials.

Qualifications:

  • Post-secondary education in Political Studies, Public Relations, Communications, or a related field.
  • Knowledge of government decision-making processes across Canada, media relations, or digital content and graphic design. 
  • Exceptional written and verbal communication abilities. 
  • Strong ability to engage and connect with people.
  • Experience in political environments is an asset.

All government relations and strategic communications applicants must provide two persuasive writing samples (e.g., essays, op-eds, editorials, etc.) 

All digital mobilization applicants must provide a design portfolio showcasing 3-10 examples of your graphic design work. Examples should be submitted in a single PDF document, showcasing a strong understanding of colour theory, visual hierarchy, and other core design principles.
